PLANTS IN THE BIBLE
May - December 1999
Our bible calls 110 plants by name. Mrs. Albright has put 29 plants in the Bible on canvas. She often lectures and recites a poem by a young Irish Poet, Thomas Osborne Davis (1814-1845):
Through her generous gift, some of her paintings are now part of our Special Collection and are currently displayed in SC's reading room.There is a lesson in each flower,
A story in each stream and bower,
In every herb on which you tread
Are written workd, which rightly read,
Will lead you from earth's fragrant sod,
To hope, to holiness, and God.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Local artist Jean Albright attended Howard College at the East Lake campus. She has extensively researched over 110 plants mentioned in the Bible. Her extensive knowledge in this field allows her to teach up to 8 seminars annually.
