Samford University Library hosts the Artwork of Irva Hayward. The 20 piece exhibit consists of oil paintings and one acrylic.
The art is showcased on the main entry level around the grand staircase and on the second floor.
Irva Hayward worked at Samford University for almost twenty years, mostly in the School of Education, where she was the certification officer and a part-time instructor. She has a bachelor's degree from Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa and a master's degree from Samford, both in the field of social science.
Irva's interest in art was kindled when as a young child she watched her mother paint. In High School she was fortunate enough to have had excellent art teachers who taught her some basic painting techniques, but she she did not pursue the study of art consistently until she retired from Samford five years ago.
Although Irva has had no formal education in art, she has attended classes and workshops with local artists. Her current mentor in Mrs. Betty Sims. Irva and her husband have three married daughters and six grandchildren.
