The Shades Valley Camera Club was founded 50 years ago by a group of Birmingham citizens as a means of sharing photos they had taken both locally as well as on unique travel experiences and to learn more about technology and techniques of photography. The group has met continuously since its founding in 1954.
The group currently has 110 Photographers that meet twice monthly. One meeting is devoted to a juried competition in four different categories; color slides, color prints, black and white prints and those prints technically or digitally altered out side of the camera.
The second meeting each month is devoted to learning new technology in the continuing advancement of image capture whether on film or with digital equipment.
Many of the club members have mastered a number of unique techniques of image preparation. Some of them are:
Baric Color "R" prints or "C" prints
Silver Gel Black and White
Standard digital reproduction
Solarization
Posterization
Infa Red
Hand tinting of Black and White
Reverse Layer Printing Transfer
Skill levels of the members range from beginners to full time professionals.
