Samford University Library hosts America's Beauty, Birds, and Buildings: Photography by George W. Ritchey
The artwork is showcased around the main level grand staircase and on the second floor in the Reading Room.

George studied photography while completing his graduate studies at LSU. During the past 20 years, he has had the opportunity to study
with some of the nation's highly regarded photographers to fine tune his skills. Noteworthy achievements include "Best in show" awards at the Marion Institute Fine Arts Expo, The Mountain Valley Arts Council juried photo competition, The Gadsden Museum of Fine Arts juried competition (where one of his images is part of their permanent collection), and numerous other juried competitions.
For many years George served as the photographer for the Birmingham Zoo. He has also executed photo assignments developing a portfolio on the Galapagos Islands for International Expeditions, in addition to assignments for the PRCA Rodeo in Birmingham.
The 25th anniversary cover of the Birmingham Magazine featured one of George's images. A number of private individuals and commercial firms have acquired his images for display.
Classes in photography for private individuals at Samford University and the Birmingham Zoo have been part of a busy schedule of activities the past several years.
There are more than 50,000 images now in his stock library.
