Library Assignment Consultations

A library assignment consultation provides you the opportunity to meet and/or correspond with a librarian to assist you in developing learning objectives for your students that will not only benefit their skills in your discipline, but also prepare them to be lifelong learners and information literate individuals.

Consultations can begin in a variety of ways. Faculty can put together a list of skills and content that they would like their students to research and information literacy librarians can help them craft an assignment that will concentrate on those skills and content as well as give students an opportunity to demonstrate their information literacy skills. Another option is for faculty to bring in an existing assignment from their course and information literacy librarians can help them identify existing attributes of the assignment that lend themselves to information literacy discussion and demonstration. Many existing research assignments ask students to demonstrate these important skills; the trick is to give students the opportunity to recognize these skills in their work and identify where they need assistance and which skills they have mastered.

Because time is luxury many faculty do not have, consultations can be conducted via e-mail or in person. Complete the form below with your information, and an information literacy librarian will contact you within 48 hours (during weekdays). Be sure to mark on the form below how you would like to be contacted.

For more information about the sessions contact Harold Goss (726-2521), or call the Reference Desk at 726-2196.
