Mission-to-Vision Statement (MCPVV)
The mission of the University Library is:
To serve as a storehouse of and a gateway to information.
To support the curriculum of the university by acquiring, organizing,
preserving and providing physical and intellectual access to a broad, well
balanced spectrum of information through personal and technological services,
to the fullest extent of our abilities and resources.
To improve continuously the processes and services of the library, in an
effort to contribute to the furthering of the mission of Samford University.
The library recognizes the following primary customers:
The library's operation encompasses these critical processes:
Acquiring the tools and resources that will assist our patrons in gathering
meaningful information, in accordance with written collection development
guidelines focusing on curricular needs.
Organizing tools and resources in a clear and logical manner.
Providing optimal access to information resources through the effective use of traditional avenues and current technologies.
Preserving for future generations the information represented by the collection, by maintaining materials of artifactual value and by exploring options for the retention and access of intellectual content.
Instructing patrons in the discovery, use, and critical evaluation of materials.
Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of materials and services on a continuous basis, to meet current and future needs.
Promoting library services and resources.
Providing training and development opportunities for the library staff to continue their growth as information providers.
Applying copyright law as it pertains to library services.
The library affirms the following underlying values:
Serving our patrons in a manner that recognizes each individual's importance as both learner and teacher.
Offering informational services to patrons without regard to their sex, race, ethnic identity, age, or religion, in accordance with the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights.
Developing balanced library collections containing diverse opinions and beliefs, which may or may not coincide with the personal convictions of library personnel.
Seeking creative, innovative solutions to the complexities of practicing academic librarianship in an information rich age.
Maintaining a working environment that challenges the growth of library personnel, affirming both job performance and the need for continuing education.
Our vision for the immediate future includes:
Enhance our collection to a level that supports independent research and problem based learning. (advanced instructional level as defined by the ACRL)
Promote the integration of bibliographic instruction into all curricula with emphasis on MetroCollege and graduate programs.
Investigate alternative methods for delivery of bibliographic instruction.
Seek creative options for additional library funding.
Complete the compact shelving for Special Collection as defined and planned in the Davis Renovation Project.
Complete library signage as defined and planned in the Davis Renovation Project.
Complete the security plan as defined in the Davis Renovation Project.
Implement electronic reserves.
Double network connectivity throughout the library.
