We try to order dissertations through ILL for students. If a dissertation is unavailable through ILL, we suggest that the student purchase unbound copies from UMI for $34 each. The student can order and pay for these themselves from www.umi.com.

For faculty, we will purchase unbound copies of dissertations from UMI's Dissertation Express. Through this service, which began with a year-long trial in August 2003, the library pays $28 for each dissertation.

We do not advertise our dissertation purchasing policy for faculty. It has worked well for those times when faculty request dissertations, but costs could become prohibitive for the library if the service began to be overused.
