Football from Howard vs. Stetson game, 1935

The ball is signed by the Howard football team and has the scores for the entire season written on the side.

The 1935 Howard College football season began with a loss of 19-0 against Mississippi State. The previous year Howard had finished with a 3-4-1 season. But the Bulldogs were about to pull off the upset of the year when they took on the 1934 Southeastern Conference Champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide, at Denny Field in Tuscaloosa. The first touchdown of the game was scored by Alabama in the second quarter. But, there was a flag on the play. Paul "Bear" Bryant, an end for the Crimson Tide was offside. The Tide scored again during the second quarter, closing the first half of the game with a score of 7-0. A penalty in the third quarter gave Howard the ball on Alabama's 37 yard line. Howard scored with a long forward pass. The game ended with a 7-7 tie. The Howard Bulldogs went on to win the Dixie Conference Championship with a season of 7-1-2.
